This US Forest Service ran recreation area provides three camp grounds: Click on the map for a larger view and to print.
Signal Creek Campground - Part of the Ward Lake Recreation Area , one of 2 drive-in campgrounds (24 units). This area is adjacent to hiking trails, and lake and stream fishing. Camping units are available for a $10.00 nightly fee. Advance reservations can be made for designated sites in Signal Creek Campground by calling 1-877-444-6777 (TDD: 1-877-844-6777). All unreserved sites are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Three C's Campground - Part of the Ward Lake Recreation Area, one of 2 drive-in campgrounds (4 units). This area is adjacent to hiking trails, and lake and stream fishing. Camping units are available for a $10.00 nightly fee. All unreserved sites are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. This campground will be closed unless it is needed because the other campgrounds are full.
Trails Near Ketchikan
Connell Lake Trail - Trailhead can be accessed by driving up the Ward Lake Road, past the Ward Lake Recreation Area, and turning into the Connell Lake Dam parking area. Trail is 2.0 miles in length and easy access along the shore of Connell Lake for berry picking, fishing, nature study, and camping. Reconstructed in 1998. Fully maintained.
The Beach at Settler's CoveSettler’s Cove State Park
Alaska State Parks operates one at Settler’s Cove State Park. A popular local pastime, your neighbors could very well be Ketchikan residents out for a getaway. Public facilities charge from $5 to $10 per night. Water and public lavatories are available at all locations. Hiking trails, proximity to lakes or beaches and summer interpretive programs are available as well.
Last Chance Campground
Located 10 miles north of Ketchikan on Revilla Road. 19 drive in camping units (17 of these are fully accessible to people in wheelchairs) available for a $10.00 nightly fee. Paved road access. Facilities include fire rings, garbage cans, vault toilets, and handpump water - no hookups. Trout and Salmon in nearby lakes and streams. Last Chance Campground was reconstructed in 1995 and is designed to be barrier free. Advance reservations can be made for designated sites in Last Chance Campground by calling 1-877-444-6777 (TDD: 1-877-844-6777). The Forest Service and Alaska State Parks recreational cabins
Another option to consider for camping in the wild. Prices run from $25 to $45 per night. The USFS also maintains docks and floats for boats to utilize adjacent to many recreational areas and cabins. Most publicly managed recreation lands allow tent camping but check before you go for regulations. Private RV facilities are also available, space fills quickly so book early. Lake Shelokum Shelter
Located 50 air miles north of Ketchikan at the west inlet to Lake Shelokum on Shelokum Lake Trail (#701).
Long Lake Shelter
Located 45 air miles north of Ketchikan at the west end of Long Lake at the terminus of Long Lake Trail (#719).
McDonald Lake Shelter
Located 50 air miles north of Ketchikan 1/2 mile down McDonald Lake Trail (#745) from McDonald Lake Cabin. Shelter is in poor shape, but still usable.
Reflection Lake Shelter
Located 50 air miles north of Ketchikan at south end of Reflection Lake. Shelter is located on Reflection Lake Trail (#731) about 1/2 mile before the Reflection Lake Cabin.
Wolf Lake Shelter
Located 18 miles north of Ketchikan on the northwest shore of Wolf Lake at the terminus of Wolf Lake Trail (#744).
