The only way to access Ketchikan is either by commercial plane (Alaska Airlines is the only current carrier) or by ferry boat. The only way to get to the Ketchikan International Airport is to take the airport ferry or charter a boat.

Serves as both a gateway for Alaska Airlines jet service from Seattle and a bush carrier and charter aircraft hub for destinations like Hyder, Metlakatla, Alaska, and Prince of Wales Island.

The Transportation Services Department of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough operates and maintains the Airport Ferry System. The system provides transport for passengers and freight between the airport, which is located on Gravina Island and Ketchikan, which is located on the other side of the Tongass Narrows, on Revillagigedo Island.
