Ketchikan, Alaska Local Forcast

Ketchikan Alaska weather is some of the wettest in Alaska. This town in located in the heart of the temperate rainforest of Alaska's Inside Passage.

Local precipitation averages almost 150 inches a year, which is over 4 times more than in nearby Juneau, more than five times that received by Seattle, and ten times that which falls in Anchorage.

This is simply one of the wettest places in all of North America. The constant precipitation keeps the area amazingly lush and constantly moist.

Nearby fjords such as Tracy Arm and Misty Fjords show off the benefit of all this rainfall, with seemingly endless waterfalls cascading down the sides of their cliffs.

June and July are the two "driest" months, during which the city receives a relatively modest 7 inches of rain.

For comparison's sake, nearby towns and cities such as Juneau and Skagway receive as little as 1 inch during these same months.

That being said, I have been in Ketchikan in the summer when it was perfectly sunny and comfortably warm.

So when visiting this town, definitely bring your rain gear, but dress in layers, as it's possible the sun may poke through the clouds and warm things up.
